Alexa Skye threw down a swift 1:21.4 three-quarters and kept right on rolling, setting a track record 1:49.3 in Wednesday’s Filly & Mare Open Handicap Pace at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows. That’s the fastest mile ever paced by an older mare at The Meadows.

Alexa Skye appeared that she might be vulnerable after the demanding fractions, but the 7-year-old daughter of Somebeachsomewhere-Pirouette Hanover got home comfortably for Dave Palone, 1-1/2 lengths better than the rallying Be My Rose N, with Fighting Evil third. The time knocked a tick from the mark Alexa Skye previously shared with Medusa.

Virgil Morgan, Jr. trains Alexa Skye, who now has won 30 races and $586,099 lifetime, for Let It Ride Stables Inc. and Odds On Racing.

Aaron Merriman piloted three winners, including a pair for Dirk Simpson, while Mike Wilder also enjoyed a triple on the 15-race card.

The Meadows Standardbred Owners Association (MSOA) is a nonprofit organization that represents the interests of approximately 700 Standardbred trainers, drivers, caretakers and owners at The Meadows. In addition to providing horses to race at The Meadows, MSOA administers such member-centric services as health insurance and retirement programs for horsemen and horsewomen.
